Dude, comic con is not the same as it once was! Everyone feels that way. If it was not for my being involved with the art show and being a part of that or all the cute women in skimpy costumes whether a booth babe or cosplay it would no longer be awesome! Comic Con went sour a handful of years ago, but it is obvious how it went bad like sour milk or rotten eggs left over to long on the fridge shelf when in ceramics class this summer an old 70 year old middle class conservative white lady complained to me that comic con is expensive!!??? This same old lady 10 years ago did not give a shit about comic con in the least and she would have seen me as a geek or nerd or a 7 year old boy going on 32 for me going before it was the thing to do, but now that she is on the fad of whats cool right now bus, she wants to complain about the price even if she has never once been to comic con ever before! Where was she when tickets were easy to get between 1973/1974 and 2006? Why was she not a comic con fan till 2010 or 2007?
In this bitter marriage seperation comic con filed against all the comic book nerds and film, animation, and cartoon buffs who populated the convention for years who were mostly all from san diego or came in from LA to Phoenix and drove to get here, the comic con says she is now in love with regular people who want to see a movie star or TV show star. The fucked up part is I used to work a booth at the autograph convention in Burbank and that show is not huge or crowded with looky loos like comic con is. In LA if you wanted to you can see Samuel Jackson or another A list movie star speak in front of an audience in a comfortable sized movie theater at events every week! At these events that were advertised or promoted, their might not be more than 25 movie fans in the entire 350 seat theater of people who came out to hear Samuel Jackson talk about being a film star! And these events take place in LA at the non profit art house theaters every day of the week all year round pretty much! Yet everyone from LA who thinks that hollywood could not function or do anything without them, ignores the local intimate movie star Q and A events that happen around them all the time and often are not even half filled with people inside the theater and when comic con happens they all have to be their to see the same movie star they could have seen live from 20 feet, now they have to see him or her from 3,000 feet away and feel like the 3,000 feet away movie star you have to watch a movie theater size screen to see in an intimate person connection they share with them???!!!
At the celebrity art house Q and A events I would see the same 30 people at every event held around town in LA, I was one of those 30 people from 2004 to 2008. Sometimes nobody really but us the 30 or so regulars who are huge movie buffs would be in attendance to the big name A list movie stars speak! I am not making this up!
At comic con I can't even get into most of the famous speaker panels I want to see because, you can't even get into the room that fits between 2,000 to 7,000 people!!! Even if you show up 3 or 4 hours early to see the other panels ahead of the one you really want to see, the room might be to filled with no seats left for me to get into the large hall with my desired panel!!!
Just like business men in 1929 knew the stock market was about to crash when the 16 year old elevator bell boy was telling you advice on which stocks were hot for you to buy and invest in...once old ladies who never cared at all for the idea of comic con complain they think it costs to much or they suddenly want a ticket the whole thing is about to crash. If comic con removed all the science fiction, fantasy, horror, and animation comic books and movie fans who made comic con what it was you will have a convention of people who only are interested in comic con because she is popular and not because they truly love her and look forward to those 4 days a year every day of their lives. If the only attendees in comic con were LA people who want to see a movie star so far away from view that you have to see them on a movie screen 700 feet away in a giant hall to see anything at all, or old ladies from San Diego who only go because others are now also going and talking about it, it would as all fads do, just dwindle away and disinegrate into nothing once people lost interst and it was no longer cool or in style to do and so last year as a fad or fashion. I don't want comic con to be the Lambada or Macerana, a short lived fad that went from hot to cold within weeks, but I can't stop it from happening if the people who run comic con are running it into the ground and not letting me a fan who has attended every year since age 10 in 1990 to 2012 except the year 2008 attend because they have it to hard to get an "online badge" no matter how you try to wait in line or sign up! I could not even get a Sunday badge this year! I am one of the many mega loyal fans comic con has had for over 2 decades! I helped make comic con what it was with my participation and dedication! Now I and nearly all the other loyal comic con fans and merchants and artists got pushed out so that same old lady who is only going to go if everyone else will go and it's the hip thing to do, that if it was geeky or comic book nerdy art school illistration student cool she would not ever go if you paid her $100 cash to attend is now catered to her and people like her or something???!!!!
WTF Comic Con board members???!!!! Really?
You really want to burn the house to roast the pig???
